In Norway, companies are legally required to have boards that are 40% female.

An interesting New York Times article discusses the law:

Would this ever happen in America? What do you think?

Getting Women Into the Boardroom

Hello WriterGal:

Sad but true the showing of women on corporate boards is still lower than their male counterparts. One can only guess why.  I read a Catalyst report which stated, “the more women on the board of a Fortune 500 company, the greater its financial performance.” Even so most large companies tend to opt for men in the boardroom rather than women. Some will put one woman on the board in keeping with diversity. However, one woman may not have much of a voice on a corporate board.  In my opinion, having only one woman on a board hinders the company from the benefits of the unique perspective that only women can bring to the table.
