Do you still freak out seconds before you give a routine presentation in front of a handful colleagues? Do you scold yourself for still being unable to control your nerves after so many years on the job? Don't be too hard on yourself. According to a recent Wall Street Journal article, a bit of stress and anxiety are exactly what you should be after. Psychologists have discovered that there exists an “anxiety sweet spot,” a mental state between being totally relaxed and feeling stressed out that makes you perform at your best. This in-between state of mind actually helps you multitask better, and keeps you sharp and focused. The researchers haven't yet come up with a roadmap to help people find that magical “anxiety sweet spot,” but they recommend relaxation techniques like meditation to bring stress levels down.
