Having A Strong Sense of Confidence

If a manager is to be believable, she must exude confidence. Whether chairing a meeting, entering a room, or delivering her thoughts and views to the CEO, she must believe in herself.

Confidence has to do with belief in one’s abilities. An individual would be wise to remind herself on a daily basis about the small and large successes which are occurring in her life because of her efforts.

There are many occurrences which seem to “bombard” one’s confidence. Reminders from the top executives that your team is not up to par on specific goals, that you “dropped the ball” in recent negotiations with another firm, or that you are simply not “doing your job.”

Here are a few ways women managers can build a strong sense of confidence which will carry over to her entire team:

·         Show pride in your team. Be confident that you have picked a group of winners that will succeed. Believe in them.

·         Spend time walking around your department observing and giving feedback. Your team needs motivation and encouragement; you are the person to keep them inspired. Seeing you and hearing you will give them confidence.

·         Give your team a leader they can look up to. Remember the importance of even emotions. Do not erupt at them over trivial mistakes; stay even-tempered.

·         Remember your reputation is on the line. You are ultimately accountable for the actions of your team; you get the credit also when they succeed.

·         Keep high expectations for yourself. Be confident that you can achieve the results necessary for success.

·         When you achieve your goals, let your team know “We did it!”
