Continuing the theme, "Taking Personal Inventory of Your Successes"

One way of helping yourself rise to the top is to network and gain support of others within your company or organization.  Here is a list of ways you can build a power network for yourself at work:

  • Share the credit for your achievements with peers who have helped
  • Look for opportunities to offer information and constructive opinions and to touch base with your peers
  • Look for opportunities to compliment them
  • When you give praise, focus on concrete accomplishments
  • Pass on another person's praise
  • Figure out how you can help a peer meet his or her needs and wants

Here is how you can meet your needs and wants:

  • Be friendly and regularly stop to chat
  • Gain your peer's trust through showing supportiveness, solving problems, and keeping confidences
  • Listen well and ask probing but tactful questions
  • Support women. Begin a strong network within your company or organization and also network outside of the office

Men for years have had the "good old boy network"; and it is high time women learn the importance of building their own power network. To move ahead within any company or organization you will need the help not only of the men at the top, but the women who are on all levels.

Keep in mind the importance of networking. You will gain more power and visibility if you continue to be aware of the importance of keeping your image and self out in front of others.

Take the first step to being and becoming involved.
