The New York Times has an interesting article on their website about how young children are learning the value of money in Allentown, Pennsylvania. The program is called Camp Millionaire- an opportunity for young kids to learn just how imporant money is in their lives. This really got me thinking about my own situation. As a recent graduate, I feel I was not truly prepared to enter the 'real world.' I along with many of my peers were inder the impression we would just land a job right out of college. However, this idea has quickly vanished and we are now left with doubt. Not only that, but we are all broke or close to it. A program such as Camp Millionaire is a smart idea- teaching kids about money is something that should be done early on so that when they grow up, they have been made aware of just how valuable it is and how fortunate they are to have it. A program like this would be very beneficial to adults as well: it is never too late to learn to appreciate the value of a dollar.

How true, JanieLynn! Girls, especially, don't often get conscious education about money - finances; how to manage, invest, and make the most of what we have financially. Camps are a great idea and also reading has helped me a great deal. I found Suzie Ormand's books to be a terrific way to start. She makes these ideas very easy to understand and accessible. Also, Rich Dad, Poor Dad was a very good read as well.

I also think if you can find an older, wealthy mentor to explain/teach what they know about finances, it can really help.
