The half-hour documentary for public television takes a look at the powerful bond between mothers and sons — a bond that supports a boy to develop compassion and empathy as he grows into a man, making powerful contributions to the community. Through touching stories of the successes they've celebrated and the struggles they've endured, a diverse group of mother/son pairs share special moments together.

Featured in Mothers and Sons are Leslie and his mother Mary, (above, right) who taught him that failure is a choice, a lesson he passes on in his role as a juvenile judge; Carol, (above, left) a breast cancer survivor and mother to Aaron and David, who discusses the trials that adolescent boys go through in gaining their independence; Soledad O'Brien, (above, center) a CNN anchorwoman who reflects on motherhood and her hopes for her young twin boys; and Shelly Lazarus, who managed a demanding, high-profile job while making sure that her sons knew they were her number one priority.
