Women's Olympic Sports on the rise

Just found this article about how Olympic ski-jumping has no women's category.
I would have assumed it was due to lack of interest but the International Olympic Committee actually banned the women's sport. A discrimination charge was brought against them but unfortunately not in time for Vancouver.

So what do you think? Is the increased participation in women's sports a step up for women? Or does the rule requiring all new events to have both womens and mens categories, create an almost reverse discrimination?

the suit brought up there made some progress and women's ski jumping has been approved for the 2014 games.
