Star Power at the WIE Symposium

Today, New York City marked the inaugural WIE Symposium, hosted by Donna Karan, Arianna Huffington and Sarah Brown (with special guest Queen Rania of Jordan) – centered around the theme “Women Inspiring Women” and timed to coincide with the Clinton Global Initiative and the UN General Assembly.

We were in attendance and our very own Helene Lerner, Founder of Womenworking.com, posed the first question to the hosts: What can each woman do to support the initiative?

Here’s what the three ladies had to say, as well as some attendees:

The star powered hosts brought together prominent females from a wide range of fields.

Speaking at one of the morning panels titled Dressing and Addressing, Fashion Designer Diane Von Furstenberg, said: “I’ve yet to meet a women who isn’t strong, but maybe sometimes we are afraid to let it out….”

Also on the panel was Glenda Bailey, Editor-in-Chief of Harper’s Bazaar, who shared: “Fashion is a way of feeling good, but there is no better way than doing good.”

The hosts aim to see women grow and thrive in a better and safer world – this includes making pregnancy and childbirth safe for all women, through the White Ribbon Alliance for Safe Motherhood. Also in partnership is Urban Zen Foundation, which works to raise awareness and inspire change in the areas of wellbeing, preserving cultures and empowering women.

It was a thrill to be part of such a powerful group!
