Representatives for Glenda Jackson have announced that the actress passed away in her home, early this morning. Her agent confirmed with the statement:
“Glenda Jackson, two-time Academy Award-winning actress and politician, 87, died peacefully at her home in London this morning after a short illness with her family by her side. She recently completed filming ‘The Great Escaper’ in which she co-starred with Michael Caine.”
Jackson won two Academy Awards for “Women in Love” and “A Touch of Class”. She spent 23 years as a member of the British Parliament, serving under PM Tony Blair and the Labour Party.
Tulip Siddiq, who took over Jackson’s seat after her retirement from politics, wrote that she was “devastated to hear that my predecessor Glenda Jackson has died,” calling Jackson, “a formidable politician, an amazing actress and a very supportive mentor to me. Hampstead and Kilburn will miss you Glenda.”
Jackson is survived only by her son, Dan Hodges.
