Ashton Kutcher is ready to discuss a miscarriage that he and Demi Moore suffered during their marriage.
“Losing a kid that you think you’re going to have, and that close to thinking you’re going to have a kid, is really, really painful,” he told Esquire. “Everyone deals with that in different ways.”
Kutcher and Moore were married from 2005 to 2013. During their relationship, they were a subject of tabloid gossip, on account of Moore’s 13-year seniority to Kutcher. At the time, Moore had three daughters—Rumer, Scout, and Tallulah—who Kutcher helped raise.
I was 26, bearing the responsibility of an eight-year-old, a ten-year-old, and a twelve-year-old,” he said. “That’s how some teen parents must experience their twenties.”
Moore initially revealed the miscarriage in her memoir, “Inside Out”. There, she said that the couple had already agreed on a name: “Chaplin Ray”. After the miscarriage, Moore began drinking heavily.
“For whatever reason, I had to have that experience,” Kutcher said. “Nothing makes you feel like a failure like divorce.”
Kutcher is now married to Mila Kunis and the pair share two sons, Wyatt and Dimitri. Moore and Kutcher appear to be on good terms now, although the release of her memoir did cause friction in their relationship.
“I was f*****g pissed… I’d finally gotten to a place where the press had really laid off me and Mila, and my life and my family,” he said. “And then the next day, [the paparazzi] are at my kids’ school.”
Despite the challenges their relationship presented, Kutcher says that he wishes the best for Moore and her three children.
“I love them. I’m never going to stop loving them and respecting them and honoring them and rooting for them to be successful in whatever they are pursuing.”
