Even while missing out on a billion, a lucky man in Virginia is still the victor of a great sum of cash following a lottery draw that resulted in a million dollar prize. According to state lottery authorities, Carlos Gutierrez went to Lee’s Sandwiches in Falls Church to purchase a coffee, chicken sandwich, and a lottery ticket.
On the way to work the next day he passed by the Lee’s Sandwiches where he overheard that a lucky ticket had been purchased from the sandwich shop. He matched his numbers to the winning ticket but found out he missed out on the opportunity of a lifetime.
Guiterrez typically would have played the number 19 as his Powerball number, however, at the last minute he switched the number over to a 14. That 14 would earn him a million in winnings but he missed out on hitting the billion dollar jackpot of 1.55 billion.
According to Complex, Guiterrez will use his million dollar winnings to help expand his small business.
