As Hollywood heartthrobs go, few men have accumulated such a star-studded roster of ex-flames as Richard Gere. From Barbra Streisand to Priscilla Presley, to the three beautiful women he’s taken all the way to the altar—its suffice to say that the man has a track record that would make the eyes boggle. Let’s take a look at Richard Gere’s three marriages:
1991 – 1995: Cindy Crawford
Brunette bombshell, Cindy Crawford, was 22-years-old when she and Richard Gere married. (Notoriously wedding each other with aluminum foil rings—which, to this day, people seem to have questions about. Gere was 37-years-old when he was first married. While the pair made headlines often, for everything from being fabulously dressed together to taking out an ad in a newspaper, formally declaring their relationship “heterosexual and monogamous”, they were not to last. Crawford summed up the schism in their relationship, saying,
“I just think your twenties for women is such a time when you’re starting to come into your own and feel your own power and connect to your inner strength and it’s hard to do that — it’s hard to change — in a relationship, because what one person might have signed up for, all of a sudden, you’re not that anymore. I think I was more willing at 22 to be, like, ‘OK, I’ll follow,’ but then you start going, ‘Well, I don’t want to just follow — I want to lead sometimes and I want to walk side-by-side sometimes.'”
2002 -2016: Carey Lowell
Gere and Lowell were married the longest of any of Gere’s wives, and at a 12-year gap, were the closest in age. The two welcomed a son, Homer, shortly before they were wed. Though custody of Homer was quickly decided during their divorce, it took four years to finalize the settlement over Gere’s $120 million fortune.
Though the two may have ended on less-than-stellar terms, Gere was all praise towards Lowell, when talking to People in 2013. “Our marriage is brilliant because of Carey. She’s a fellow traveler with me on the voyage. We’re partners, honest mirrors in which to see ourselves and grow and change. We help each other. It is love without ego. I think with Carey I realized that, wow, I can actually have a child with this great woman and not be afraid of doing it,” he added. “This wonderful child is now in our lives. I’m nuts about my son! He fills me with joy. You have to make time for a child, but it’s enormously satisfying.”
2018 – Present: Alejandra Sliva
Gere and Silva are still very much in love! The two have two sons, Alexander and a child whose name has yet to be released to the public. Gere was a family friend to Silva and had known each other for more than a decade, before starting their relationship. They were recently seen holding hands at the premiere of Maybe I Do, a rom-com starring Reece Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher.
“Our karma was attracted the moment we saw each other,” Silva said, of Gere. “I’m not ignoring our age difference and what it means to be with a Hollywood star, but when there’s such a strong karmic energy, the problems disappear.”
