Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson was involved in a police car chase on Tuesday with her boyfriend, Dralin Carswell, in Monroe County, GA.
The Monroe County Reporter was the first to report on the news.
According to Monroe County Lt. John Thompson, here’s what happened: It started around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday when Monroe County Cpl. Jaleel Brown ran the tag of a Dodge Charger in front of the Shell station on Hwy. 42. The car’s owner came back as wanted so Brown tried to make a traffic stop. The driver sped north on Hwy. 42 and Brown gave chase that continued about 3 miles. He finally used a PIT [precision immobilization technique] maneuver to spin the car and disable it on Hwy. 42 near Hickman Road.”
Carswell was arrested for DUI, fleeing, failing to maintain lanes, following too closely, as well as receiving a speeding citation. He and another passenger, Julian Malik Divon Williams, also had outstanding warrants against them.
Honey Boo Boo was not charged in the chase and was treated as a witness.
Thompson has been dating Carswell for two years, speaking briefly about their relationship in 2021 to Teen Vogue.
“To be honest, I do not have many friends. At all,” she said, referring to Dralin as her “only friend”. “Because I feel like folks are so much like, ‘Oh, my God, I’m friends with Honey Boo Boo.’”
“I don’t trust nobody really, so I don’t have friends,” she added.
Their relationship has been under much criticism among fans and people outside of the family regarding their age gap – Thompson 17, and Carswell 21.
Thompson’s mother, June “Mama June” Shannon, has spoken about her own thoughts on their relationship in an interview with TooFab.
“Yes, I’ve met Dralin. They’ve been together for over a year,” she said. “People need to realize that she’s going to be 17 in August and that Pumpkin and Josh were the same age as they were.
“She is getting a lot of hate because she’s in an interracial relationship, he is older,” she continued. “But at the end of the day, Alana’s not that 6-, 7-year-old child y’all fell in love with 11 years ago. Alana has grown up, she’s graduating high school next year, guys!”
Thompson also talked with ET last year addressing the criticism of their relationship.
“…at the end of the day, my sister approves, his mom approves, and we’re happy, so what fans got to say or what haters got to say I don’t really care.”
