American-actor Casey Affleck got vulnerable during a 2018 exclusive interview with Entertainment Tonight; during the interview, Affleck, 47, spoke about a range of personal topics such as his family’s history with alcoholism and how his ex-sister-in-law Jennifer Garner helped his brother Ben get sober.
“Ben is an addict and an alcoholic. Most of my grandparents are alcoholics. My father is an alcoholic, as bad as you can be, and he’s been sober for about 30 years. I’ve been sober for about six years,” the 43-year-old actor said to ET.
Garner reportedly drove her estranged husband, Ben, to a rehab center in August 2018 following what ET reports that Garner had become increasingly more concerned for her estranged husband as she began seeing signs of his addiction picking up, including making excuses for missing plans and rarely answering the phone. According to ET’s source, when Garner arrived at Affleck’s home, he showed visible signs of “being on a bender.”
This is Affleck’s third time in rehab; he was previously admitted to rehab and discharged in March 2017; where he then posted on Facebook a message to everyone that said, “I want to live life to the fullest and be the best father I can be. I want my kids to know there is no shame in getting help when you need it and to be a source of strength for anyone out there who needs help but is afraid to take the first step. I’m lucky to have the love of my family and friends, including my co-parent, Jen, who has supported me and cared for our kids as I’ve done the work I set out to do.”
Casey speaks highly of his brother and is supportive of his brother’s attempts towards sobriety as he said to Entertainment Tonight. “Ben is trying to put it together,” he continued, speaking from his own experience, “and it can be a very hard to do. He has the kind of resources and time, luckily, to take the time and go to a good facility.”
