Maria Menounos and husband Keven Undergaro have welcomed their first baby to their family – congratulations are in order! The road to the delivery was not easy, with infertility and even a cancer diagnosis for mom to be Menounos. It seemed that the possibility of a family happening was less than likely. But it seems dreams do come true as Maria Menounos fulfills her longtime wish of becoming a mother.
Baby Athena Alexandera was born on June 23 via surrogate in what Menounous describes as “the most special moment of my life.”’’
Undergaro said that the experience was similar to Christmas morning times a million. It seems baby Athena is in loving hands! The couple has long been candid with their struggles, first breaking the news of their coming bundle joy to People back in February.
But the uphill battle has come to fruition for the couple. Menounous spoke to USWeekly where she revealed the details of how motherhood is fitting her. “It’s euphoric. For so long, I’ve felt something’s been missing. I’d go to kids’ birthday parties, and I’d be a little sad because I wanted my own family. And now I feel so grounded, like I finally know where I belong,” she said.
The baby was born in Wisconsin with her parents anxiously awaiting her arrival. And for Menounos the bond between her and her daughter was instantaneous. “It felt amazing, but also really natural, like we had been together a long time. A psychic said she was going to be my mom from another life. So I remembered that after, and I (thought) maybe that’s what that feeling was,” she said.
The couple has been nesting with their baby and settling into new parental life quite well. Yeah. I joke every day I love maternity leave. I called my boss and said, “I might need a little more time.” The boss was like, no problem. I’m the boss! [Laughs.] It’s so great that Keven has been running my show, so I’m able to take this time,” Menounos joked to USWeekly.
